Chocolate worth beating a path to

UPDATE June 2022: La Forêt has closed.

La Forêt, est. in  2010 by French trained chocolatier Wendy Sherwood, is a little off the beaten path in wine country, but totally worth seeking out. While they do not sell truffles on site (they are only available online 4x a year), there is plenty of good chocolate in the rest of their line to make the trip worthwhile. Bars, caramel chocolates, orangettes and other dipped/enrobed confections, plus non-chocolate treats like flavored caramels and pâte de fruit — basically an assortment you would expect to find in a typical French chocolate shop. The chocolate used is exceptionally good: Wendy mixes her own coverture out of a blend of Valrhona and Guittard chocolates.
