The original Shaw’s Candy opened in 1931 and as an affordable treat during the Great Depression, was immediately successful. The business grew until it had almost 50 stores in the Bay Area. Unfortunately nothing lasts forever, and as the decades went by, Shaw’s contracted down to the original West Portal location, and then closed altogether in 2020.
Diana Zogaric, a neighborhood working mom, and her family loved Shaw’s; and she decided to buy and revitalize the iconic store. It took a beyond-the-studs renovation and major learning curve, but the renamed Shaws Candy (minus the apostrophe) opened in 2021.

At Shaws, they make their own fudge, and sell locally sourced chocolate (such as bonbons by Ashby Confections), plus Mitchell’s ice cream, seasonal candies, coffee drinks, and more. Some of their wares are available online.
