Started in 2014, bean-to-bar maker Raphio Chocolate, in Fresno might be a bit too far to qualify as SFBA local, but after trying their chocolate, we decided to adopt them as honorary locals and rate them as worth a trip to visit their factory store.

Raphio Chocolate makes single-origin and inclusion bars, plus truffles and chocolate drink mixes. They also have a café in their factory store where they sell espresso/chocolate/tea beverages.

Started by Elisia Otavi-Makmur to make chocolates that she would be happy to give to her children (the company name is a combination of the kids’ names, Raphael and Rio), she and her husband, Yohanes Makmur, opened the chocolate shop at their factory in December 2017.

Raphio chocolate is as organic as possible, gluten free, soy free, vegan, non-GMO, and made by hand with no peanuts or preservatives. They also make some sugar free chocolate using natural sweeteners.

Raphio Chocolate is available online, at their shop on Fresno and some stores around SFBA and further afield, and at special events. Check their website for more info.
