In fact, there is at least one “officially-designated” chocolate holiday every month (such as November’s lone choco-day: 11/7’s National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day).

I use quote marks because I cannot find any details on how these days came to be so designated. No history, such as how long they’ve been celebrated or who started the ball rolling. And searching the web turns up multiple dates for some of these holidays (National Chocolate Day can also be celebrated Dec. 28 & 29 — the more the merrier!) and more chocolate-related holidays (National Chocolate Pudding Day is June 26, and May is National Chocolate Custard Month).

I couldn’t find an authoritative declaration of a National Dark Chocolate Day, the one I would really like to recognize. Some claim Feb. 1, which is OK by me since it means I have some time to plan the proper way to celebrate what could become my favorite holiday.

Plus celebrating chocolate in February seems a lot smarter than July.
